For weeks now, the name Hassan Kurusee has echoed across social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), becoming one of the most powerful and enigmatic voices in Maldivian politics. From exposing corruption to posting explosive live updates during national unrest, Kurusee has emerged as a digital force — but no one truly knows who he is. Or rather, who they are.

Operating under a masked identity with the now-iconic raised hands logo, Kurusee doesn’t show a face or a name. Just truth — raw, unfiltered, and often uncomfortable for those in power. He’s known for posting screenshots, confidential audio clips, and real-time commentary that has left both the public and political elite stunned. His tweets carry strategy, sarcasm, and sharp political insight, which many believe can’t come from an average citizen.

A Familiar Voice?

Last night, Kurusee went live on X. The broadcast quickly drew over 1,200 listeners. His voice, though filtered in a chipmunk-like tone, struck an eerily familiar note. Several listeners, including our team at Samuga Media, couldn’t help but notice how closely the rhythm, confidence, and language mirrored none other than former President Mohamed Nasheed.

The resemblance wasn’t just speculation — it felt undeniable. His word choices, pauses, laughter — even the energy — were almost identical to past interviews and speeches by Nasheed. Is it a coincidence? Or is Nasheed himself involved behind the curtain? Some argue it’s not just Nasheed — but a group, with him as one of the main players.

A Strategic Mind — or Something Else?

Kurusee’s latest tweet asking people to calculate jail capacity to strategize protest arrests triggered mixed reactions. While some praised his tactical thinking, others began asking a different question: Is this leadership, or is this just someone using people as pawns to push a personal agenda?

The people trust Kurusee — but what happens when someone anonymous starts playing war-room general with real lives on the street? And how far can this go before someone gets hurt?

So, Who Is Kurusee — Really?

We may never get a confirmed answer. Is it Nasheed? Is it a collective? A whistleblower from inside the system? Or just someone brilliant enough to make the whole country believe he’s a political heavyweight?

What we do know is this: Kurusee is a product of the times. A symbol of broken trust in leadership. A voice for many — and a mystery that refuses to be silenced.

But as the movement he fuels grows stronger, one question remains:

Can we afford to follow a leader we can’t see — or question the one we already know?
