On the occasion of World Thalassaemia Day, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu highlighted the importance of protecting the rights of children affected by thalassaemia and ensuring equitable access to quality care. Speaking at a public event, the President stressed the urgent need for increased public awareness, better treatment availability, and consistent blood donations to support children and families living with the condition.

“Every child deserves a fair chance at life,” the President stated. “That includes those living with thalassaemia. We must work together to create a more inclusive and supportive healthcare environment for them.”

President Muizzu urged government bodies, healthcare professionals, and the wider public to join efforts in creating long-term solutions—particularly in improving early diagnosis, expanding care facilities, and reducing the social stigma often associated with the disease.

World Thalassaemia Day serves as a global reminder to act with compassion and responsibility. In the Maldives, it is a call to strengthen healthcare systems, support affected families, and inspire a culture of giving through regular blood donations.
