May 14, 2025 – Gaza City
Intense Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip have killed at least 80 Palestinians, including many women and children, in one of the deadliest escalations in recent weeks. The strikes, which began overnight and continued into the early hours of Wednesday, hit several densely populated areas, causing widespread devastation.
The heaviest toll was reported in Jabalia in northern Gaza, where at least 59 people were confirmed dead. Residential buildings were reduced to rubble, with rescue teams pulling bodies from beneath collapsed structures. In the southern city of Khan Younis, at least 10 more fatalities were recorded, further adding to the growing number of civilian casualties.
The Israeli military stated that the operation targeted “militant infrastructure,” though witnesses and local medics say entire families were caught in the bombings. Many of the victims were women and young children who had been sleeping when the attacks began.
This latest escalation follows a period of relative silence, coming just as an Israeli-American hostage was released in a separate diplomatic development. The timing of the strikes has led to renewed public outrage and growing humanitarian concerns.
Gaza’s hospitals are overwhelmed. With many health facilities damaged and fuel shortages crippling ambulance services, doctors are struggling to respond to the rising number of wounded. Several hospitals reported treating dozens of critical injuries, with urgent shortages of medical supplies and operating space.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate. Hundreds of thousands of Gazans remain displaced, and food insecurity has reached catastrophic levels. More than half of charity-run kitchens have shut down due to the blockade, leaving families without basic meals.
International condemnation is growing, as calls for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access intensify. Yet, the Israeli government has signaled it will continue its military campaign, vowing to dismantle remaining Hamas strongholds.
With no signs of de-escalation, the people of Gaza face another day of mourning, destruction, and uncertainty — trapped in a war with no clear end in sight.
